Biographical Sketch:
William Raphael (Raph) Hix earned his undergraduate degrees, a B.S. in Physics and Astronomy and a B.S. in Mathematics, from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1989. He attended Harvard University for graduate school, earning an A.M. in Astronomy in 1991 and a Ph.D in 1995, studying with Friederich-Karl Thielemann and Alastair G. W. Cameron. From 1995 to 1997, he was a post-doctoral research associate in Astronomy at the University of Texas at Austin, working with J. Craig Wheeler. Beginning in 1997, he was a post-doctoral research associate and later research assistant professor in the UT/ORNL theoretical astrophysics group, before joining the staff of the Physics Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 2004. Since 2010 Raph has been a Joint Faculty member in the Physics Department at the University of Tennessee. He was the 2006 recipient of the Sigma Xi Young Invetigator Award. His research interests encompass the full range of nuclear astrophysics, stellar evolution and stellar explosions. Raph and his wife, Dacia, are the proud parents of Ronan and Lorelei.
